Camera Obscura was a column of photo essays exploring New York City’s lesser-known neighborhoods and landscapes. This column was published every two weeks, beginning in 2012 and ending in 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic. These photo essays explored post-industrial parks on the New York waterfront, the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, New York’s forgotten rivers and abandoned landmarks, new ideas for addressing rising sea levels, and the ongoing demolition of New York’s historic neighborhoods.
