Desire Lines and DaylightingPhotography Installation Desire Lines and Daylighting is a site-specific photography installation, looking at the inequality of waterfront access in New York City. In 2025, these photographs were installed inside two unique waterfront spaces in New York City – a public space at Hudson River Park, and a community space on the Gowanus Canal. Each photo exhibit highlighted the work of neighborhood residents and community groups to create more meaningful access to the shorelines of the Harlem River, Flushing Creek, and Newtown Creek. These photographs bring visitors to the informal pathways leading to the water’s edge, and to spaces where environmental stewards have worked to reclaim abandoned street-ends and restore habitats. These photographs were taken as part of Kensinger’s work as the 2024/2025 Photo Urbanism Fellow at the Design Trust for Public Space, and were initially installed on the Hudson River at Pier 57, one of the only indoor public spaces on Manhattan’s waterfront. |
